I'm Back

Maddie 2008
At last I'm back online - and properly this time having had my Journal intercepted last night by the grandhumans (whom I've still not met).

The Burrow has been very quiet since Friday but the peace has now ended and it's a full burrow again - in fact tonight it was even fuller than usual because the Big Black Monster Thing slipped in un-noticed by the staff. It thumped its way up the stairz and flopped down beside mummy's hare conditioning machine until she saw it and shoo'ed it out back to where The Thing belongs. It was very cross because while mummy was away, Uncle J deviously got out the lawn-stealing machine and it ate all our long fresh juicy grass from the back lawn.

I have a little sad news to share. Does everybunny remember Bunty, the scraggy wild lionhead bunny and her wild bunny friends who starred in the 'Bunderful Tonight' video on the Bunny Tunes 3 DVD? Mummy went back to Knaresborough hoping to see her on Chewsday but the area where she'd sat with them all at just arm's length away last June was now devoid of all buns. They had all succumbed to the nasty myxi outbreak just weeks after being filmed. I'm glad I've had my jabs but feel very sorry for my wild relatives.

I also have a little more sad news but I can't risk bringing on another depressive episode by announcing it now so will save it for later.

Is there an age limit before we buns can go for our jabs? We are 10 weeks old, are we big enough yet?

Yes, you are more than ready.

You need your myxomatosis vaccination at 6 weeks which is repeated 6-monthly in high risk areas (most of the UK) or annually in low-risk areas. You also need your VHD vaccination at 10-12 weeks and there should be a gap of two weeks between the two as a precaution against any interaction.

Your breeder should have told your mum this when you were adopted and, ideally, also given you this information in writing too along with your general care and feeding instructions.

We suggest you contact your breeder again just to confirm that you haven't already had your myxi jabs but if your mum wasn't given a Certificate of Vaccination when she collected you, you probably won't have been vaccinated so she needs to arrange your these and, if Gizmo is a boy, then in the next 3-4 weeks, he should be ready for his snip so now is the time to look for a good vet for him.

Mums vet was most impressed when I turned up for my VHD vaccination at 10 weeks with my certificate and bottles from Burrow Court. Funnily enough it was the bottles that impressed Vet Gina the most. But then she couldn't stop making a fuss of me.

The vet even looked at the bottles?! That's a first! (However, I did once have a Forensic Scientist adopter who insited he also wanted the sharp, too)

Mummy took our bottles with us when we went for our VHD vaccinations, they were looked at as well mummy thought this was normal. We don't like that stewpid vet though, she thought I was a girl!

Norfolk is high risk so I should imagine your area will be high risk as well.

Yeah I should think it will be, not only are we in Lincolnshire, we live in a village surrounded by fields, so we wont be risking it.

We feel it's best to assume the whole of the UK is high risk and have 6-monthly vaccinations to be as safe as possible.

Oh that horrible Myxi, why can it not just go away and leave us bunnies alone (then we would not need to have the 25ft needle every 6 months!!!)

At least they are forever immortalised in the BT3 DVD.

Maddie, do you realize that by sharing your Mum's sad news, you may have saved two lives?
I'm so glad Gizmo and Daisy's 2foots acted promptly to Dr. Inga's information!

VERY glad we don't have that killer here in the United States and I hope it stays that way.
